Low speeds comparing to qBittorrent

Wed Jul 28, 2010 5:40 pm
Hello,
I tried to download a few torrents with both KT and qBt and I've come to conclusion that KTorrent has some problems or I'm doing something wrong.

My configuration:
Computer: Asus 1000h
System: Debian Testing
Ktorrent: 4.0.2
Connection: ethernet
Router: WRT54GL with Tomato

Common settings in both clients:
Max connection per torrent: 200
Global connection limit: 1000
Max up: 80 KiB/s
Max down: 2600 KiB/s
DHT on
Allow encrypted connections
all ports changed to ~30000-40000
uPnP enabled
running only one torrent

As a test I'm currently running Starcraft 2 torrent with thousands of peers:
http://torrentz.com/289722105644ef1849a ... a8efb5cd4f

It seems that Ktorrent has a problem with establishing new connections:
qBt:
Seeds ~100, Peers ~100 (all peers found in a first few minutes=max connections reached quickly)
down speed 300-600 KiB/s all time from the beginning, sometimes > 1 MiB/s
After 1 hour: downloaded 1,4 GiB (19,2%)
After 4 hours (3:52): 100% downloaded
KT:
Seeds ~50, peers ~120 (it took ~30 minutes to get this number of peers, and it's slowly going up)
down speed (first 10 minutes <20 KiB/s, then 100-200 KiB/s, sometimes less)
After 1 hour: downloaded 257 MiB (2,88%)
After 4 hours: 1,4 GiB downloaded (18,8%)
As you see, the difference is big. Hope someone find the reason:)
End of report.
Best regards:)

EDIT:
Some2 other strange things
1. DHT peer number in KT is ~530, in qBt only ~160
2. in KT the seeds/leechers number looks like this: 54 (10700), 114 (27327). Many peers but can't connect to them?

Decreasing the authentication timeout seems to increase the number of peers a lot faster.

Where can I find these settings?

I'm currently viewing the logs and I see a few times every second something like this:

Authentication to 91.15.42.24 : failure
or
Authentication(S) to 91.105.21.14 : failure

Sometimes I get "timeout occured"
