I always have to remember to uncheck the 'Start Torrent' option when opening a torrent in the GUI. It would be nice to have in the Settings that when I open a torrent, that I can set the default for the Start Option on opening a torrent.

I just switched (back) to using Ktorrent for the 4.x version. I've used uTorrent, Bittorrent mainline, Vuze, and qBittorrent; and Ktorrent is the only one of these clients that doesn't have this as a setting I can choose.

Specs:
  • KDE 4.4.4
  • Qt 4.6.3
  • Ktorrent 4.0.2
  • libktorrent 1.0.2
  • openSUSE 11.3 (64bit)

Re: good idea

I thought I had seen such an option before, but now that I'm interested, I can't find it! It really would be useful to me to set the default for the Start torrent checkbox (by default ON).

I generally have to open torrents in the Stop phase so I can move individual files into position before starting the torrent. I've noticed that when you do this after the torrent is started, the download speed suffers, meaning peer connections are lost at least for a time.

If we can set defaults for other settings, I think we should be able to set the default for "Start torrent" as well. Anyone who thinks otherwise should contemplate having to tick the same option box every time they start a torrent, now and forevermore.
