At first: big regression in UI.
In old, tabbed UI you could define columns displayed per tab. It was very useful. For example: two tabs: Downloads and uploads. On first tab column "download speed" is one of the most important, but on second one it's completely useless. Or another column: "% Complete"... Next thing: In old UI you could see number of torrents in each tab - now you cant. And switching from download list to upload list is horror. You have to click on select, scroll down, find "uploads" and click it. This is really taking too long time. All in all - for now I'm switching to the old version. |

The problem with the tabs is that it made the code quite complex for some things like the inline scanning progress indicator. Further more you can only look at one tab at the same time. So I made the decision to remove them.
Of course some things are lost with this removal: 1) Switching is not one click, though you just have to scroll the combo box to change the current group (no clicking required). 2) It's no longer possible to show the number of torrents in the tab headers 3) It's no longer possible to have separate view settings per group My plan for 4.3 is to add a new group switcher / management widget, and make it possible for view settings to be owned by the group. Which will address these issues. Either way, there will be one view and not multiple. |

I agree, that's a real shame, I made heavy use of the tabs too. I don't want a group view switcher widget, I want multiple tabs open.
I have lots of groups, having to repeatedly scroll through the group list to find the one I want is extremely irritating. Leaving a couple of tabs open for whatever I want to look at is so much easier. The switcher widget would simply has a huge list of groups and is just as annoying to have to scroll through as the group view. Always hated the argument of "I don't use something, therefore I can't see why anybody else would use it, therefore it is useless, therefore I'm removing it." Going back to 4.1.2. |

A few bugs with the switcher:
Custom groups in the switcher widget don't seem to be in any discernible order. It's certainly not alphabetical, and it doesn't appear to be in the order they were added. This makes it harder than it should be to select the correct one. There's no way to select "Ungrouped Torrents" from the switcher. If you delete a custom group via the group view, the group view automatically selects the next group. However, the torrents view reverts to all torrents, which doesn't match what the group view suggests should be visible. Similarly, changing the view in the switcher doesn't change what is selected in the group view. If you delete a custom group, the switcher widget ends up with a blank row at the bottom. |

Frankly, George, saying that "you can only look at one tab at the same time" is ridiculous. Tabbed interface is used to group similar items, so that the user can access them in a practical and easy way ("1-click"). So, "only look at one tab" is a characteristic of this feature, not a reason to remove it. Also, a tabbed interface is *NOT* a multi-window interface, at least in the user's view.
