I'm using version 4.2 and, every time i try to add a magnet link, nothing happens for a random amount of time.
Sometimes it takes about 30 seconds to open the add dialog, others 2, 3 or even 5 minutes. This is a bit annoying. Tanks. p.s. The situation is worst than I thought, there are magnet links that are added more than 15 minutes latter (I don't know the exact time, since I give up waiting). |

With magnet links you have to find peers first and then download the torrent information. This process can take a while, there is no way around that.

Ok, I understand that. There is something wrong with this protocol, taking 15, 20 minutes to do this is a lot of time (I have a 15Mb connection). Thank you for the information. |

I also think so. |

netspeed is irrelevant, it is a matter of finding the right peers |

I also experience this issue and it is extremely annoying. It must be possible to change the app so the torrent appears in the list even though the peers have not been reached yet. This is what happens in utorrent. As it is now it gives the impression that the app is broken.

Most likely the magnet links will end up in the main torrent list at some point in the future, but this will require a lot of design changes to fit it in properly. |

I have the same problem with Ktorrent.
I've tried Transmission, and, yes, for some magnets it takes time to find peers, but nothing to do with Ktorrent. I've downloaded several small files through Transmission in a few seconds, with Ktorrent I have to wait from 5 to 30 minutes. And it's happening something weird, every few minutes (5-30) add dialog pops up. I guess it must be magnets links I tried to download a few hours ago, there must be some kind of queue, but I'd swear I didn't click so many magnet links (and so many times, because the same file dialog pops again and again). Aditionally, if I click on 4 o 5 magnet links I have to stay a lot of time in front of the PC, waiting for add dialog to open for every torrent. I can't just add downloads and go away. |

I have been having this same problem, but only in the last few days. I am running ktorrent 4.1.1, which up until now was working great.
torrents with lots of seeds would open almost immediately, but now there are no peers connected with the magnet links, no matter how many seeders are on the torrent. i've had magnets looking for peers for hours now, and nothing. the only things that come to mind would be a network change at some point. my isp blocking the port? or my settings are too strict to let peers connect. this is the month of the new "rules", so i do wonder if there were some changes made at the isp level... torrents still work fine for me, so any isp changes haven't gone that far - it is just in the initial connection with peers and the magnet links. I installed vuze, and that pics up the torrent from the magnet links pretty quickly, while ktorrent sits at 0 peers connected.

I agree with your doubts. Previous version 4.1 found peers much faster!

This problem is fixed in the master branch, 4.3rc1 will be released in the next few days with this fix included.

30 minutes? HA! For me magnets take hours, and sometimes days. What is worse is that ktorrent does not seem to keep the magnets if it dies or the system reboots. Where is the list of magnets stored? Because ktorrent doesn't seem to remember them between reboots.

Hi, i confirm this bug with Ktorrent 4.3.1 running on Kde 4.10 (on archlinux). I switched to qBittorrent that's faster to run magnet links.
