Hi,

I understand that you probably had bugs related with data corruption because of people using the same data for multiple torrents... But I think there should be at least an option somewhere to enable that somehow dangerous behavior. It could even popup a dialog saying "God kills a kitten every time someone enables this option" xD

As for the reason why...

Reason 1 - Sometimes torrents come in folders and ktorrent does not detect that all files are distinct (ex: torrent 1 has folder "Family/Jun2012" and torrent2 has folder "Family/Jul2012" and I try to save it to the "same" folder and it gives an error...

Reason 2 - Sometimes I have the same torrent data that I want to share with multiple torrents/trackers. I can't >:( No data would be written, just read, but even so, ktorrent doesn't allow to have multiple torrents reading the same files...

Reason 3 - Previous versions allowed :P It was a nice feature that I wanted to keep using.

Thanks o)

Edit: I'm using KTorrent 4.1.3 on Ubuntu... sorry if in the newest this is already working correctly ;)

We allowed it by not checking for it, this meant that it could go horribly wrong. Actually doing this properly is a quite a bit of work, and can get very tricky, especially if the files have the same name and do not have the same content. We would have to invent some way of veryfing if the two files are the same, this is not a trivial problem, under some circumstances it would be practically impossible to determine this.

That's why I have chosen to disallow this scenario. An option to explicitly allow this at the users own risk might be possible, were the user has to tell ktorrent that this is the same file. But that will require some rework in libktorrent, to share files between torrents. Maybe something for 4.4.

There's a bug for this on the tracker. Feel free to vote for it. :)
