I recently upgraded my internet connection from 30mbps to 120mbps, KTorrent can easily reach speeds of 14 MBytes/s however it started hanging for a few seconds randomly at these speeds, it doesn't crash or anything it just hangs for a while and it goes back to normal. I also tried capping download to 10MBytes/s and the issue is still occurring. I'll keep testing to see if there's a point where it stops hanging.
This didn't happen with the older connection, in which it managed about 3,6 MBytes/s. It's the same ISP and the same technology (cable operator with EuroDOCSIS 3.0), it was just their typical end of year contract renewal. Is anyone experiencing the same problem? Thanks. Does ktorrent use much cpu when this happens ? |

Uses about 15% to 20% CPU.
I also forgot to mention, could this be related to the fact that it's saving to a NTFS partition? |

One thing to check would be if it is "Blocked by I/O". This is visible in top's status column, as 'D'. If this is the case, then the NTFS file system could very well be helping to cause this.

This happens to me too. However, I'm using an ext4 partition.

Please check to see if it is Blocked by I/O using the methods I noted above.

Correction: KTorrent hangs when I'm saving to a FAT 32 flash disk, not an ext4 partition.

If you leave it for some time, without disconnecting or unmounting the flash disk, does the operation eventually complete?
The linux kernel has an unfortunate habit of permitting applications to write data faster than the drive can actually handle (giving the impression of high copy speeds which are impossible), but this eventually fills the buffer at which point the application is then blocked completely until the drive catches up. This cycle will then repeat, giving the impression that KTorrent may be hung.

You're right! But it's an unfortunate habit indeed. I was always forcing KTorrent to close, thus wasting a lot o f time. Thanks for the info.
