Firewall blocking KT

Mon Oct 10, 2005 3:20 am
Hello. I am trying to use kTorrent for the first time. When I try to start a torrent, I get the message: Error: The tracker is down.

Under Preferencess, Port is set to 6881 and UDP tracker port is set to 4444.

I have DSL, and am using a Westell 2200 modem.

In my firewall log, I get the message "Packet to be dropped unless service is enabled". I think I have the port forwarding done correctly.

The part I am confused about is this: in the firewall log, under packet details, it says: Source Port 10425, Destination Port: 6969. Shouldn't source port be 6881?

Here is how my port forwarding is configured:

Port 1
Protocol: TCP
Global Port(s): 6881-6889
Base Host Port: 6881

Port 2
Protocol: UDP
Global Port(s): 4444
Base Host Port: 4444

What am I missing? Thank you for your help!

No, the ports you forward are to listen for incoming connections. If somebody wants to make a connection to you, they will use those forwarded ports.

You have to make sure that your firewall allows you to make outgoing connections to port 6969.

Hi,

I seem to have the same problem as TeaQuaffer. Ktorrent reports that the tracker is down for torrents that connect to the tracker just fine using Azureus.

I'm behind an NAT router, which forwards TCP port 26881->26881 and UDP 24444->24444. The TCP port 26881 works and is used by Azureus as well.

Do you have any idea what the problem could be?

Startup KT and run netstat, see if KT is on the right port.

Well, I tried out some more torrents and found one that actually starts downloading. Still, for this one torrent did i could not connect to any peers on port 26881.

One thing I did notice from netstat is that the connections from azureus have the ::ffff: prefix

::ffff:10.0.0.2:39205

Whereas ktorrents connections do not

10.0.0.2:54333

I think this means that azureus uses IPv4 whereas ktorrent uses IPv6, but am unsure. Could this be relevant?

For completeness, running ktrorrent with one torrent yields
Code: Select all
> netstat --program |grep tcp |grep ktorrent
tcp        0      1 10.0.0.2:58354          p14.pub.ro:56000        SYN_SENT    5920/ktorrent
tcp        0      1 10.0.0.2:58351          p14.pub.ro:56000        SYN_SENT    5920/ktorrent

Azureus downloading one torrent shows:
Code: Select all
> netstat --program |grep tcp |grep java
