very low download speeds

Sun Nov 20, 2005 12:12 am
Hi, I'm using ktorrent 1.1 in SUSE 10.0 and I'm getting very low download speeds. There are 29 peers and 22 of them are seeders so I should be getting very high speeds. The most I get is around 2 kb/s and only for a short time. I've set the firewall to allow TCP port 6881 and UDP port 4444. I'm on a university ethernet connection which can be a bit slow, but never as bad as this. Any help would be appreciated.

I've got the same trouble... Only I am connected to an unrestricted DSL line... I get almost nil upload speed... and at most, 20kbps download. I can't quite catch why.

Nevermind... upgraded to 1.1, saw IMMEDIATE IMPROVEMENT... Is rc1 throttled? Or is it throttled by Novell in SUSE10?

I downloaded the version from this site, I was using 1.1rc1 that came with SuSE, but I'm not seeing any improvement. I'm also getting the choked and/or snubbed status from all of the peers. Thanks for the help though.

You guys should try the SVN version, see if that gets you any improvements.

I installed subversion, but I cant quite follow the instructions on the download page. I enter all of the commands as written into the console, but nothing seems to happen, I dont get any kind of prompt after the first command and I have to exit via the menu. Sorry, I'm pretty new to linux and I've never tried compiling anything. Thank you for the help.

After the first command you should get a directory named ktorrent, containing all the source code. You should try again, maybe there is some problem on the server.
