Ktorrent downloads always from a most slowest peers

I upgraded from 1.0 to 1.2rc1 and i really like all new features. Main problem is that now it is more slower to download than it was with 1.0 version, what is slow if compared to bitlord on windows machine.

I noticed that ktorrent dont download any data from seeds, all comes from peers who has downloaded less than 5%. I'm downloaded over 96% and i have over 10 seeders who has "No" on "choked" or "Snubbed".

I have set all settings to 0 so it would not try to limit upload/download or any connections. I have 100/100Mbits connection to internet so i dont need trothle.

And ktorrent change torrent state to "stalled" every 10-20 seconds for about 3-5 seconds, when it is changing from slow peer even more slower peer. That's why i cant get fast downloads. I have downloaded now ~220MB file over 7 hours. In bitlord i could get that file under 15min.

What is wrong?

I have never seen this behavior before, does this happen constantly or was this just a one time occasion ?

KT requests data from any peer who hasn't choked it, if they choose not to send something back (because of upload limits for example), that's not KT's fault. But it is highly unlikely that all seeders do this.

This happends all the time. Right now and every time when i restart KT.

Restart is sometimes only way to get TK to get faster download for a moment but it dont last longer than max. one minute. After that it will change downloads to peer what has downloaded under 10%. Few times now after watching it's behavior it used few seconds two seeders but it was only getting the normal >9kB/s.

I dont know what can cause this behavior to download only from most slowest peers and almoust pass all seeds or peers what has entire download process over 10%.

Maybe you can try the latest from our SVN repository, we fixed a lot of bugs since the 1.2rc1 release, and maybe the problem is solved in there.

I am also having this exact same issue with Ktorrent 1.2rc1 (SuSe10.0). When I start the application it will start to download but it will quickly go into the stall status. I reinstalled the rpm for the disk and set it to update in YaST just to see if there were any fixes. The application doesn't seem to properly throttle the connection. The speed fluctuates constantly going from 1k to 20k all within 3 secs and continues this behaviour. I am behind a router and I do have the SuSe firewall running but all ports are opened to allow this application to function properly.

Any Ideas?

You could try the about to be released 1.2rc2, which includes all bug fixes since 1.2rc1 :

Tar and kubuntu package (for amd64) can be found here :

hi, I've installed the latest version of ktorrent, 1.2rc2 ( SuSe10.0 ), several days ago. however, i've been having the same issue described above lately, which hasn't existed before with the earlier versions.
i'd really appreciate some help.
cheers

Have you tried changing the "memory usage" option from low to high?
I just did that. With low it seems to only download 10 chunks at a time and tried to download each from a several peers (4-10). Most of them never gave me anything.
Now I'm on high memory usage but it's a lot faster, downloading 40 chunks at once and most of them are only assigned to 1 or 2 peers. It's yet to early to if the drastically improved download rate (3-20k/s with low after 30 minutes, 40-120k/s with high after 5 minutes) is just a coincidence, but it is the same torrent I'm downloading.

With some changes I made yesterday, things should be better, seeing that we pull choked downloaders from a chunk.

alright, i've changed the "memory usage" option to high and observed the downloads for awhile. at first it seemed to work. however, after several minutes the same issue occured again.
what else i've noticed is that everything works perfectly fine the first few minutes after i start ktorrent. after that though, the downloads drop down to 1 kb / sec.
i find it rather odd that about 95 % of my downloads, no matter what, need about 2 or 3 hours, or longer, for example for 30 mb or basically spend most of the time in the stalled status... and that the only possible solution seems to be restarting ktorrent.

it seems that the speed problems are known to the developers, an I read somewhere that it's working on it
at least i hope that
