Hi, I downloaded and installed on my Kubuntu breezy the Ktorrent 1.2 rc1-1 provided on the download section, and a big bug is occuring when trying to download a .torrent : Ktorrent acts as if the download is finished even if he did not began to download it ! This is a bug preventing anyone to download anything, bad for a bittorrent client ! ;-)

I tried to reproduce it with several torrents, new or begun with ktorrent 1.1, the same bug is occuring every time. Hope you can fix it, maybe this occurs only with this package (i386).

Anyway, thanks for all your work, ktorrent is a great app and I'm looking forward to seeing a stable 1.2 or 1.2rc1. Let me know if you can reproduce the bug.

Regards

That's weird. I made that package and it should be OK (didn't hear any complaints so far).

Could you try removing old version that you might have (I saw you mentioned 1.1) and you may also try removing your ~/.kde/share/apps/ktorrent folder (backup first, offcourse). It may have some problems with some old configuration (I doubt though, but give it a try).

I tried wht you advised, but did not change anything (except removing the search plugin functionnalities, making ktorrent unusable ...)

There's a new bugfix release 1.2rc2, download it and see if your problem is still there.

Allready done before you answered ;-) .

I apt-get remove --purge ktorrent and removed the ~/.kde/share/apps/ktorrent/ directory, then installed the 1.2-rc2-1 .deb available in the download section.

The bug is still occuring with this version : ktorrent simlinks the file downloaded to my download directory from the temporary directory before having begun to download it. I tried with several .torrents, and different kind of plugins loaded, the bug is still there.

Weird ...

Here is the ~/.kde/share/apps/ktorrent/log file :

Code: Select all
Bound to port 6881
Loading plugin searchplugin
Loading plugin infowidgetplugin
Loading plugin ipfilterplugin
Anti-p2p file not loaded.
Anti-P2P filter unloaded.
IP 0.0.0.0 banned.
Loading plugin partfileimportplugin

Loading plugin logviewerplugin

Don't seem to report any errors, but hope this helps.

I think I found where the bug comes from : it occurs only when I chose my temporary directory on a fat32 partition. If I chose this temporary directory on an ext3 partition, no problem, the download begins.

This is weird, I never had this problem with ktorrent 1.x (x<2) before, and always downloaded on a fat32 partition (this is my documents partition, don't have enough room in my /home partition in ext3 to download).

This reminds me a kinda similar problem with azureus that I used to have about 6 months ago, which couldn't download when it was on a fat32 partition (there was a menu to check in order to be able to download on it). In fact, this is not the same problem, because ktorrent does as if the file is download before having begun to download it !

Hope my bug report helps, and I hope that you will be able to fix it (should not be too hard, it worked with previous versions of ktorrent), because a lot of people still use fat32 partitions on their computer to stock their docs, even with linux distros ;-) )

There are some open issues with fat32 partitions :

KT does not check if the filenames it creates can be created on a fat32 partition (apparently it can't handle some characters), this still needs to be resolved.

Maybe you can send me the torrent, so I can see for myself.

It append with all torrents I tried (no necesserilly with "[" caracters like i saw in another bug report), so feel free to try with any torrent you want, not anyone begin the download on my fat32 partition (no problems with ktorrent 1.x, x<2 though).

I just took resized my fat32 partition to make another one in ext3 in order to overcome the bug, but I still think this is something that really has to be fixed in order to work on most of linux workstations (and Ktorrent 1.2 is really worth it, it would be very bad if every single person using vfat on his harddrive to stock documents could not use Ktorrent 1.2 !)

Regards.
