ktorrent won't seed

Tue Jan 24, 2006 10:27 pm
I tried the most recent version of ktorrent (1.2rc2). I downloaded 3 or 4 thing, and it was seeding well, but after the download finished it won't seed anymore.

Ktorren says the tracker status is OK, but no peers are connected me.
A courious thing that after I click on 'Start' 8-10 peers seem to contacted but after a while (1-3 secs) all of the peers go away, and nobody is connected me.

I'm behind a proxy, but I have a port forwarded - I set it in the configuration dialog. I leave the UDP port field as there was.

Of course, other client (azureus, and bittorrent) run properly, bt they are slow and eat a lot of the resources, that's why I would choose ktorrent.

The clients who connect to you during seeding, are they seeders or leechers ?

So, now I'm trying with ktorrent-1.2 (from the gentoo portage).

While it's downloading the files it says: average upload speed: 0, share ratio 0, peers: 1 leecher x seeders.

After finished it says: 0 leecher. It means the one that doesn't have the file with 100% also has gone away, and doesn't downlod from me.

Of course, there are more than one people who are leechers (as on the tracker's site showed). I even don't know why does ktorrent say that there is only one leecher...

I tried it at home. It worked.
Behind my proxy it doesn't work. What to do?

AFAIK using bittorrent behind a proxy has never worked ok with any client.

IMHO it works.
Many-many people can use bittorrent, with a variety of clients here: bitComet, azureus, and so on.
I can use the original Bittorrent client, it works fine, either with portforwarding, or without it. But it's been wrote in python and with gtk. So it's slow, and ugly...
I'm using KDE. Ktorrent would the best choice if it could seed.

So ktorrent should be able to seed. Other client's can, so ktorrent have to be able, too.

I have no problem seeding and uploading, I uploaded more then 100 MB during my download of the latest Battlestar Gallactica episode.

If you are only connected to one leecher, you are not going to upload much. If that leecher goes offline, you can't upload anything.

Does this happen with all torrents ?

:-D

OK, I cannot belive, that you dont understand me... :-)

So. It happens with *ALL* torrents, and yes, there are a lot people want to download the file, BUT only ONE can connect to me.

So there is a problem with ktorrent, and I don't know, what it is.

If you are still using 1.2rc2, you should upgrade to 1.2. But you probably allready did that.

The fact that only one leecher can connect, is extremely weird, I have never encountered it, and you are the first one to report this. We do not kick leechers, we just accept everybody (until you hit the limit), and when we are seeding we kick out the seeders (they don't need our data anyway).

Are the proper ports forwarded ? Do you see incoming connections ? (In the log file look for lines which start with Authentication(S) )

There is no difference in the authentication process between downloading and seeding.

I just tried it here, seeding works fine. This is weird. Can you start seeding a torrent and let it run for 5 or 10 minutes, and then send me the full log file ?

Note: I've edited out files and tracker URL - can PM them to you if needed, but am uncomfortable sharing them here.

This continues on unchanged for a v.long time and after a while I see all connections to peers closed where eventually none are connected.

Let me know if there is anything else I can do to try and figure this one out.

embarrassed to say - think I've figured it out....

I had 2 versions of the torrent file and was using the wrong torrent file with different data...

It's now properly importing (it's 7Gb so will take a while)

If I don't respond soon, please ignore previous.

Hello!

I have this problem. I use ktorrent svn build form yesterday.

I have here:
- 4 torrent file
- Tracker OK
- 15-25 leechers for each file
- No DHT

Ktorrent was not seeding. In 12 hours, I only upload 2-5 mb for each torrent.
I stop all and try with azureus (2.2) and it connect and seed the file.

Here my log file:

Thank you for your helps
