I never started this version of ktorrent ,because it always crashed at startup ,i had no probelms with previous releases ,maybe I should use the source but if someone has any ideas then please tell me.

You could try to begin with a clean ktorrent folder:

1.)Save you downloaded torrent data somewhere not in /home/mvv/.kde/share/apps/ktorrent,

2.)remove the folder /home/Darkman/.kde/share/apps/ktorrent,

3.)fire up ktorrent and see if this make any difference.
When it does work you can enable the partial file import plugin, and import the torrents so you can resume you saved torrents. (local stats will be gone though)

Stoeptegel's suggestion might help, but looking at the location of the crash, I don't think so.

Do you have an other bittorrent client running on the same port ?

You should try the latest SVN version and see what that gives.

same problem

I (OpenSUSe 10) first crashed the KTorrent 1.2-5 just by unchecking certain files within a torrent. I could no more start Ktorrent, here is the Backtrace:

I decided to reinstall the application after deleting all the temporary download files. I no longer dared to uncheck any file within a torrent. It worked fine. Until the time I turned the computer off and wanted to restart KTorrent later. Here is the new problems / error messages:

X Could not start process Unable to create io-slave: Zu viele offene Dateien.
X Der Transfer des Torrents Hard Dance ....konnte nicht gestartet werden: Die Datei ~/kde/share/apps/ktorrent/tor7/cache..... lässt sich nicht öffnen: Zu viele offene Dateien.
X Could not start process Unable to create io-slave: Zu viele offene Dateien.
X .....blablabla
X ......blablabla

After clicking away these errors KTorrent will start but no more download anything. I am now missing the search page as well as the details section on the lower part of the Transfers page completely - I get only about "50% of KTorrent" working :-)

This has allready been fixed.

You have to many open files, I suggest you use ulimit to increase the limit. We have dealt with this problem somewhat, but it still can happen.

And if you do not see the search page, go into the preference dialog and load the plugin. The lower part is also a plugin (the infowidget plugin).

right, the ulimit was set to 1024.

BUT:

after
su
ulimit -n 4096

-> STILL the same error messages! ;-(

There is no preference dialog - do u mean the "Einstellungen"? How can I load a plugin? Why? These features were working well w/o any addl plugin loading.....

update...

Sun Apr 30, 2006 5:03 pm
it looks the system does not remember the changed ulimit when the "Konsole" is closed and opened again!! BTW, the ulimit can only be changed in SU mode, so can this have any effect on KTorrent?

working again

Sun Apr 30, 2006 5:16 pm
after deleting some current torrents the program seems to get "new life" automatically - downloads work again and even the search page and infowidget can be loaded again (they were not "there" before). My #1 message with KTorrent is:

NEVER START TOO MUCH TORRENTS AT THE SAME TIME OTHERWISE KTORRENT GETS UNSTABLE / UNUSABLE!

#2 message: Developers, PLEASE try to improve this!

We allready have improved this, but if you want to have 200 torrents open with 1000 files each, you can forget it. KT cannot change the system limits. We now only open files when it is absolutely necessary, but you can still reach the file limit.
