Setting up ipfilter

Fri May 05, 2006 1:14 pm
Hello folks,
i'd like to know how to set up an ipfilter file in "KTorrent Format". Is it possible to use this block filter to convert an ipfilter.dat (emule) to ktorrent format?

Thank you.

You can create KT format blocklist by yourself there's no need for conversion. Just add IPs you want to block in some txt file one IP per line. If you want to block ranges just place '*' in the right place like:
Code: Select all
100.*.*.* - blocks all IPs that start with 100, or
*.0.0.0 - blocks all IPs that ends with 0.0.0

If you want to use emule ipfilter.dat, just use Level1 filter (option above KT format filter). It will download the latest ipfilter and convert it to KTorrent usable format (different than the format I explained).

Hello Ivan,

thanks for your reply. Unfortunately it doesn't help me since I already tried converting an ipfilter.dat with the built-in function of ktorrent. I'm planning to use the following ipfilter.dat

Does it work for you?

Nope it won't work. This file is (as far as I've seen) customized for eMule. Contains lots of fake server IPs too, which you won't need for BitTorrent.

If you know which format is this ipfilter.dat (its name), you may use that blocklist converter you mentioned in your first post to convert the list to PeerGuardian format. You can use that converted list with KT then.

If you don't manage to do that, you can still use level1 filter from www.bluetack.co.uk - it's more than enough secure if you're not too paranoid :)

They (Bluetack) have some problems with servers. Apparently they have problems with bandwidth so they had to compress filters.

I made a quick fix so KT is now able to use zipped files from Bluetack. Correct URL is

http://www.bluetack.co.uk/config/splist.zip

You may use this URL in KT. It will decompress the file and use it. Or you may manually decompress it and use that file.

I'm not sure this URL is not going to change so we'll have to keep up with them. Anybody that notices URL change should inform us so we can update links.

It's not in PeerGuardian format so you need to convert this list using some tools from Bluetack.co.uk if possible.

But since the list is small, you can easily do it manually. Just copy/paste this text into some file and load it in KTorrent:

Code: Select all
NonSeg3:000.000.000.000-082.144.202.000
NonSeg3:082.144.202.128-085.202.168.000
NonSeg3:085.202.175.255-255.255.255.255

Hope this helps.
