Beta 2 install on Kubuntu 5.10

Mon May 29, 2006 2:27 pm
I'm very new to KTorrent. Just switched from Azureus and I was a noob there. I like what I see so far.

I had 1.1, got and installed 1.2, and now I want to go to 2Beta. I did the dpkg thing and get an error:

Preparing to replace ktorrent 1.2-1 (using .../ktorrent_2.0beta1-1_i386.deb) ...
Unpacking replacement ktorrent ...
dpkg: error processing /home/****/Packages/ktorrent_2.0beta1-1_i386.deb (--install):
trying to overwrite `/usr/share/mimelnk/application/x-bittorrent.desktop', which is also in package kdelibs-data

Probably a simple fix, but I don't know what to do. Can someone offer a suggestion? I tried to delete the x-bittorrent.desktop and it failed.

Use the --force-overwrite option of dpkg, that should overwrite the desktop file

the command you need is
Code: Select all
sudo dpkg --force-overwrite --install /home/****/Packages/ktorrent_2.0beta1-1_i386.deb

This is because KTorrent overwrites KDE's default icon for a Torrent file (the little white square that is used for most unknown files) with an icon based of KTorrent's logo (MUCH cooler). You also might need to restart KDE for it to take full effect (I did, but then again, I compiled from scratch on Dapper)

I hope this helps :D

Thanks for the quick help. I must remember that option from now on. I haven't installed a .deb up until putting in 1.2 a few hours ago.
