Thu Jun 01, 2006 2:17 am
Greetings
when trying to set up a torrent I get the error;

Cannot
symlink /mnt/hdb6/Shared/AAA_ktorrent_temp_files/tor0/cache/*.iso to /mnt/hdb6/Shared/*/*.iso: Operation not permitted

The permissions are for this user as owner
-rwxrwxrwx 1 michael michael
I went all the way
any ideas please
Michael

I guess you're using FAT partition which doesn't allow symlinks. Am I right?

Thanks Ivan
I had run configure and make as root. I reloaded as user then root for install and all went well. It was a fat32 partition but that dosn`t make a difference as all works well now

I thought I had fixed it but you actually had it right. It was the symlink on Fat32 partition
Thanks again Michael

You can use a fat partition but the temporary file dir must not be on one.

Note that fat has limitations that we do not take into account at the moment. So some torrents might not work on fat partitions (fat can't handle all characters).
