Where are the downloaded files?

Fri Jun 02, 2006 2:14 am
Hi,

sorry for the noob question but I just spent all day downloading Kubuntu and for the life of me I cannot find where this file now exists. There is a dead link in the $HOME/.kde/share/apps/ktorrent/cache as

Code: Select all
cache -> $HOME/Linux/kubuntu-6.06-desktop-i386.iso

but there is no file there.

What happened? Ktorrent announced that the file was downloaded and that should have been the end of it. I removed the torrent from the queue after seeding but that should not have removed the file. I also downloaded another file and did NOT remove the torrent and the same thing, no file.

So did these files never get written from the cache? Any help or insight in this would be most appreciated.

Thanks

Open settings dialog in ktorrent and see what's the default directory to save your downloads - they should be there.

But, this cache dead link is rather confusing. It should point to downloaded file...

Normally they should be there. We only delete data when a torrent is not finished and the user wants this (you have to press yes on a dialog box).

Yes,

I'm thinking that there must be something wrong with my particular system.

When I do About Ktorrent I get

KTorrent 1.2 (Using KDE 3.5.1 Level "a" SUSE 10 UNSUPPORTED)

I am running SUSE 10.

This was (obviously) my first time using KTorrent, should I try the 2.0 beta or is there something else.

Again, thanks for your replies and information and I apologize for any ignorance on my part.

You should definitely try 2.0beta1. But, just to be sure, since you're having this weird situation I would first uninstall previous version of KT and delete ~/.kde/share/apps/ktorrent directory. That way you'll be sure you have the fresh installation with new configuration.

In my settings dialog, the default directory is unchecked, though the directory I want is in gray text. It is saving them to a different directory.

Note that I configured this using ktorrent 1.2; and have not made adjustments since upgrading to 2.0beta1.

Suppose I try to fix this. Should I
    close ktorrent
    move the completed files manually
    restart ktorrent
point the settings to the right directory?

...or do something else?
I want to keep seeding these.

Changing the default save location will only affect new downloads, existing downloads will just keep downloading to the old location. But if you want to move the files I suggest you remove the torrents from KT (obviously not deleting the data), move the files and use the import plugin to import them again to continue seeding or downloading.
