Strange behavior (dl speed)

Mon Jun 12, 2006 4:20 pm
Hi!

Came home today from a trip. Yesterday I capped ul and dl to 30 kb/sec (for my wife's sake, or mine actually, I don't dare having her touching my Linux machine, he he).

The dl rate was about zero (maybe 1 or 2 k/s). I removed the cap, not much happened. I updated the trackers, no difference. Then I stopped all downloads, exited KTorrent (2.0dev, SVN 548667). Started it directly after and voila! Around 60 kb/s almost immediately (after maybe ten or twenty seconds).

Has this phenomenon been experienced by someone else? (my line's got 2 Mbit down, unsure of the upspeed, probably less (ADSL)).

New connections have a higher chance of getting unchoked.
There are other factors, if a seeder can upload faster to another peer, it will take that peer. And it might be a while before it will try you again with an optimistic unchoke.

If you mean that after your removed the cap and restarted the torrent, this slow speed didn't happened anymore... and that this slow speed is clearly caused by setting a limit on the download speed every time.

Then yes, i have this too.

To tackle the high net usage with a limit, I'm busy revamping this whole download cap a bit, and the socket stuff, to get more low level control. It should get rid of these issues.
