Trouble upgrading to 2.0Beta

Sat Jun 24, 2006 8:09 pm
I have Ktorrent 1.2 installed, and I'm trying to upgrade to 2.0beta. I'm using Kubuntu 6.10 with the Kubuntu 5.10 i386 deb.

Heres the results I get in from Konsole:
Code: Select all
jeffery@ubuntu:~/Desktop$ sudo dpkg -i ktorrent.deb
(Reading database ... 74046 files and directories currently installed.)
Preparing to replace ktorrent 1.2-0ubuntu5 (using ktorrent.deb) ...
Unpacking replacement ktorrent ...
dpkg: error processing ktorrent.deb (--install):
trying to overwrite `/usr/share/mimelnk/application/x-bittorrent.desktop', which is also in package kdelibs-data
Errors were encountered while processing:
 ktorrent.deb

Just type
Code: Select all
sudo dpkg -i -force-overwritte ktorrent_pkgname

dpkg is complaining about bittorrent mimetype - this way you'll associate all your torrent files with KTorrent with appropriate mime icon.

I had to spell/syntax check that command, but it did the job, I now have 2.0beta installed.

I had the same problem but this fix didn't work for me...

Never mind, I got it working. "--force-overwrite" (an extra '-' and one less 't') was what was needed.

Please remove x-bittorrent.desktop from ktorrent as kdelibs already carries it. The only difference between these two files is, that the kdelibs version has a ton more translations and ktorrent's one associates *.tor files as well. The latter one could be easily added to kdelibs' mimetype.

Furthermore it causes headaches for packagers.

Don't know, maybe we should do that.

We will add a configure option so you can enable or disable the mimetype desktop file.

I think that's too late...The debian package gives us an error on installation & fails.

I'm no expert, but I suspect the better solution is here:
