Install Problems

Fri Aug 11, 2006 9:09 pm
I recently installed Debian Sarge and the KDE desktop and fortunately am not having some of the problems that I was having trying to get other distros to work properly (I am pretty new to Linux, but am catching on pretty quickly). The main problem that I can't quite figure out with this install though is that I can't seem to get any file sharing programs to work except bittornado (which just sucks). When I try to install the .deb file from your website it gives me this error:

david@Debian:~$ su root
Password:
Debian:/home/david# dpkg -i ktorrent-2.0-i386.deb
(Reading database ... 89004 files and directories currently installed.)
Unpacking ktorrent-2.0 (from ktorrent-2.0-i386.deb) ...
dpkg: error processing ktorrent-2.0-i386.deb (--install):
trying to overwrite `/usr/share/mimelnk/application/x-bittorrent.desktop', which is also in package kdelibs-data
Errors were encountered while processing:
ktorrent-2.0-i386.deb
Debian:/home/david#

However I have uninstalled any other bittorrent clients and made sure that I had the dependencies listed installed... Is there a repository I can add so that I can just use synaptic or is there a known way to fix this???

Thank you,

Ok, I did some reading and did a --force-overwrite on the dpkg command and found another file that it was asking for and installed this lib also it is now installing without error but will not run.

What do you see on a terminal, if you start it from there ?
