close search

Mon Aug 21, 2006 11:51 pm
Is there a way to "close" search tab (unload konqueror)? I don't want the search page to use any resources, since I am not using it most of the time. I unload the plugin now, but is there some other easier way?

Easier way than just unloading a plugin?! :)

There's no other way. Just unload 'search' plugin and you won't see search tab anymore. Not even after restarting KTorrent. When you want to use it again - just load the plugin.

Yeah, like an "X" button next to back and refresh :wink: . I don't want flash ads running in background all the time. Maybe the button can be made to open about:blank or something, or do it automatically after a few minutes. Or am I just being crazy?

Ah, now I see what you mean. I've missed the same thing several times.
I guess it's not a problem to add "Clear search" button in toolbar which will open about:blank.

George what do you think?

The blank page is kind of blank ..., maybe we should make a default start page and add a home button to got to it, a simple HTML page will do.

Or, after the IDEAl GUI change is complete, we make a search tab at the bottom or side and only open a search tab when the user enters something there, and then we allow the search tabs to be closed, this has the added advantage that multiple searches at the same time are possible.

I tried this way and it's running (except my english here..):

add a search engine :
Name = blank
URL = about:blank?FOOBAR

and search with your engine blank, the result is a good white page.

Interesting, but this is not really needed in the SVN version where you can close search tabs.
