DHT is allways off

Wed Aug 23, 2006 11:14 am
Hi,

I started using the 2.0 version, and I noticed that includes DHT capabilities.

I then went to the configure options and enabled DHT. However, in the main windows I allways have "DHT: off" on the status bar, no matter what option I have selected in the configure options.

Also, whenever I start ktorrent, the DHT option is disabled in the configure options, even if I enabled it previously.

I am using ktorrent 2.0.1 in SUSE Linux 10.1.

Thanks for the great program.

I can enable it without any problem in the preference dialog. The moment I hit OK or apply it is enabled.

Is there any problem If I enable it while a download is running, or should the list of downloads be empty in order to be able to enable it?

It doesn't matter. It should work either way. The moment you hit apply in preferences - it should be enabled. Very weird you have this problem...

What is even stranger, is that I enable "Use DHT to get additional peers", and if I close and open Ktorrent, it is not enabled anymore. Might this have anything to do with upgrading from previous versions?

Can I erase the file /.kde/share/config/ktorrentrc and restart ktorrent without loosing anything related to the downloads currently going on?

And, just to make sure, there is no need of any external library for DHT to work, right?

No, you don't need an external library, erasing ktorrentrc can help but beware that if you changed the temporary files directory, KT will not find your downloads anymore, but you can just change it back and then restart KT.

Same problem here

Same Prob with DHT here.

I tried to set it to port 3001, this is open for UDP and TCP. It always changes back to 6881.

I use ktorrent since 1.2, perhaps its the prefs file. Will delete that and try again.

ktorrent 2.0 release

@SteveM
A bit offtopic probably, but you shouldn't use another static/signed port when you deside not to use a signed port for the app/protocol. In that case, you'd better use a dynamic port somewhere >| 49152.

So is there a fix for this DHT not taking effect issue? I am experiencing the same problem. DHT is always off even if I enable it in preferences. If I restart KTorrent then even the preference is lost. I tried deleting ktorrentrc and starting from scratch but still no luck. I also tried re-installing the package. I am running SuSE 10.1 with latest KDE.

Thanks,
Alex

Can't reproduce it here.

You could try getting rid of :

~/.kde/share/config/ktorrentrc

But you will lose all your settings.

However first check the permissions of this file, see if you have write access to it.

I already tryed it, but didn't do any difference. I will see if the SUSE packagers apply some patch to ktorrent, since I am using SUSE provided packages.

I had the same problem and I think hcostelha pointed to the solution. I had installed the official Suse package via smart (i'm using Suse 10.1). Just now I uninstalled ktorrent and then deleted the config files. I then re-installed with smart but this time using the i686 package from ktorrent.org and now everything is fine, DHT can be enabled/disabled as desired. Suddenly I am uploading and downloading at reasonable speeds again :D

I looked to the SUSE packages, and they disabled DHT when it was introduced, and didn't enable until now. I will send them an e-mail to correct that.

I submitted a bug report in the Novell bugzilla, show it should be solved quicky. I will post here when they corrected their packages.
