Ktorrent Crashes

Fri Aug 25, 2006 5:57 am
On a Suse 10.1 freshly installed.
I ran Ktorrent for a few days. Then I did some exploration of
the files I was downloading. The Ktorrrent crashed.
The /opt/kde3/bin/ktorrent --version reports
Qt: 3.3.5
KDE: 3.5.1 Level "a"
Ktorrent:1.2
I tried to restart and the crash is still occurring.
I reboot the machine the crash is still occurring.
I tried to find a lock that would prevent ktorrent to restart
The crash says:
terminate called after throwing an instance of 'bt::error'
ERROR: Communication problem with ktorrent it probably crashed.
Duh ! :-) I saw that.

Does anyone know how to debug this.
I tried to install an rpm for a newer version 2.0-1 but this got in conflict with the version installed.
I downloaded source for 2.0.1 and followed build instructions.
The build failed.

Thank you for any info leading to the capture of this bug :-)

Regards
Ephraim

I'd say you better resolve that rpm version conflict. Or give us some more information about error you get when you try to compile from source.

New try

Sat Aug 26, 2006 2:17 am
Ok
I used YAST to remove the Ktorrent Package that installed with SUSE 10.1
once I install the new package ktorrent-2.0-1.i686.rpm
I get a conflict which reads:

file /opt/kde3/share/mimelnk/application/x-bittorrent.desktop from install of ktorrent-2.0-1 conflicts with file from package kdelibs3-3.5.1-47

I think some other component need update but I do not know what version will be required.
Could someone tell me how to proceed.
My next experiment is to compile and install from source.

Thank you for any assistance.

Regards

Ephraim

No need to go width the source yet, it's only a small conflict with the x-bittorrent.desktop file. Not a big problem, just force the KTorrent rpm to overwrite that file. Try writing this command in a shell as root:

rpm -Uvh --force ktorrent-2.0-1.i686.rpm

2.0.1

Attn: Knut
Thank you for the rpm info. I did install ktorrent-2.0.1 sucessfully with the --force option.
However I still have problem as the program runs for a while and crashes ( vanish from the screen ) . What could I do to capture log and further info to eventually track the issue. I am naturally willing to go the long road to get this going, but I have to admit that the first experience with this package is not too impressive. I am sure it will grow on me as I learn every single line of code :-)
Your help is very much appreciated.

Regards

Ephraim

If it crashes you normally get a KDE crash dialog.

no crash dialog

In fact there is no crah dialog. The ktorrent window disappear and this is the end of it.
Is there a place to look at logs and/or may start the program with debug verbosity

Thank you

Ephraim
