Is ktorrent 2.x in a debian repo?

Sun Sep 10, 2006 5:16 am
I'm running kanotix (debian sid) and an azureus lib was broken, so I'm trying out ktorrent. It comes installed in my distro, but the current version is only 1.2-1. Is 2.02 available in a debian repo? If so, where should I point apt? If not, when should ver 2.x make it's way to the debian repos?

I didn't see any docs for ktorrent. Is there any info about how to set up and config it for a NAT router?

ktorrent seems to work, with whatever the default config is, but it's a bit slow on the download and very slow on the upload. I've picked up a little info from reading posts on this forum, but if there's someplace I can find more detailed howtos that would be nice.

Thanks,
Ron

It seems that it's not yet in the debian repository, but the frontpage has a link to a debian testing package: http://ktorrent.org/index.php?page=downloads

Dunno if it will work on konatix though, i guess you just have to try.

Are you familiar with how to build Debian packages from source? ( download the .dsc, .diff.gz, and orig.tar.gz, dpkg-source -x *.dsc, dpkg-buildpackage)?

If so, head over to packages.ubuntu.com/ktorrent and build the Ubuntu Edgy ktorrent package from source.

For those who care an easy way to make your own (k)ubuntu edgy package of a Ktorrent SVN-snapshot.

First make sure you have your sources in the repositories activated.

sudo apt-get build-dep ktorrent (to get the needed packages to compile the new ktorrent sources)
sudo apt-get install checkinstall
sudo apt-get remove ktorrent (to prevent conflicts)

then download the latest snapshot from http://ktorrent.org/downloads/svn-snapshots/

unpack it and go into the unpacked folder with konsole or other CLI.

./configure
make
sudo checkinstall

checkinstall will make a debian (.deb) package and also install it during this process.

Worked perfectly on ubuntu-edgy. (not sure if it also works also in debian or any other version of ubuntu)
have fun :)
