Commanding Ktorrent command line

Mon Oct 02, 2006 3:40 pm
I'd like to be able to start up/shut down ktorent remotely through SSH. Would just killing the process for it work for stopping it? Or would that be a risk of data corruption? Is there a list of console commands anywhere for the program? Or is there a ktorrent --help? (Not in a position to check it right now).

Any information involving the above would be greatly appreciated.

Type this in a shell to cleanly shut it down :

dcop ktorrent MainApplication-Interface quit

if your gonna restart it, wait a bit after that command is done so all the kio_http/kio_file processes disapear.

Thanks.

Restarting is just a simple "ktorrent" i suppose? Or will I have to screen it since i'm SSH'ing in?

you might have to set the DISPLAY variable to your X session (something like export DISPLAY=":1.0"), and if running it and exiting the shell doesn't work, you can use "nohup ktorrent &" and exit.

Awesome, thanks.

One little problem though. I believe it's because I'm running Gnome as my desktop, but if I try to run the shutdown remotely as:

dcop KTorrent MainApplication-Interface quit

it gives me the error:

ERROR: Couldn't attach to DCOP server!

and doesn't close it as far as I can tell. Any idea what the problem with this might be?
