Hi,
Could someone please staple a set of clearly detailed port forwarding instructions to the front of the website? I've searched through the forums and found several peoples ideas of good or bad settings. What should they be (in detail, for those of us who don't use port forwarding for anything else). e.g. is there supposed to be a range (6880-6881)? Is it just a single address (4444-4444)? TCP? UDP? GRE? Thanks, Lance |

Thanks,
OK then, looking at the configuration options and their default settings in Ktorrent: "Port" defaults to 6881, which, if I understand you should be TCP "DHT" also defaults to 6881, but is supposed to be UDP Isn't that a conflict? "tracker" defaults to a different port # so no conflict there. If I'm supposed to change one of those seemingly conflicting ports: 1) which one? 2) to what? 3) how do I know if it will conflict with something else? 4) how do we get the defaults changed in the program? |

'Port' value is TCP port number used for incoming connections. BitTorrent (generally) defaults to 6881-6999 however, some ISPs filter those ports and some trackers also won't let you connect using some of these ports (they sometimes require greater values like >40000 or something).
'DHT' is UDP you can set this value to whatever you like, it should be OK I think. My settings are always 50000 TCP ('Port') 4444 UDP ('UDP tracker port' and I think this is default value for most BitTorrent clients) 4445 ('DHT') You don't. If you run a program that tries to use that port, you'll probably get warning message or something. Same thing will KTorrent do. If some other program is using some of those ports, KTorrent will display a warning message and select the first available port with value greater than selected. I strongly suggest that you read the following pages: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TCP_and_UDP_port http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TCP_and_UDP_port_numbers this will probably help you understand better. |
