For some reason, when I run ktorrent, my computer gets really unresponsive. Top shows ktorrent using 50% of CPU (850Mhz) for a time, then 110% memory. I've been using this version for over a month with no problems and I haven't added any new downloads lately. Just deleted one of my downloads (1GB of files).

Make a backup of your ~/.kde/share/apps/ktorrent directory and then delete it. Now start KTorrent.
If it works than there's something messed up with your config files or torrent temp files.
If you want to know what's causing this (and notify us so maybe we could fix it) you should then close KT and start moving files one by one from your backup to newly created directory. When you move one file start KT to see everything's working fine and then close it. When you move some file and starting KTorrent gives you the same behavior as before - you've found the cause of this error.

I'd start with 'plugins' file followed by other files in directory and then I'd continue with torX subdirectories.

Thanks Ivan,

I did as you said and backed up the directory. Then I copied the files one by one. Ktorrent started, ran and exited perfectly. This left the actual torX folders. I copied the first one 'tor0'.

This time, ktorrent took a long time to start up, maybe 30 seconds. Then the memory usage jumped up to 60%. When I ran File->Quit, nothing happened. Then I issued 'killall ktorrent'. About 2 minutes later, the program exited.

This torrent has been on my download list for over a month and I don't know why it's a problem now.

Best Regards,

As a workaround, I suggest that you remove tor0 directory and reopen that torrent or use partfileimport plugin to import existing data and continue downloading/seeding that torrent. If the same thing happens then it's definitely data problem.

It would also be good if you could zip that tor0 directory (without the data offcourse) and send it to my email maybe I can figure out what's causing troubles. ivan _at ktorrent dot_ org
