i think his question is :
how to configure ktorrent to download through proxy (socks ? http ?)

in kcontrol (sudo apt-get install kcontrol ?) you can specify a proxy for kde but i think ktorrent won't use it.

KTorrent will use KDE default proxy if you set it via KControl. This applies to KDE session, I don't know if this would work on GNOME. As far as I'm concerned I think it should work.

Just open konqueror or the KDE control center and set the proxy. Gnome will probably have it's own setting for the proxy, but that has no influence on KTorrent.

My ISP requires all data to go through an HTTP proxy.

How do I set the proxy and torrent transfer data to go through an HTTP proxy without changing my proxy in my linux environment?

Thanks,
John

You can fill in your own proxy in ktorrent (in the advanced settings, check the do not use the KDE proxy box and fill in your proxy). But this is only for HTTP tracker connections.

It is not possible to use a HTTP proxy for bittorrent connections.

It is possible to use an HTTP proxy for bittorrent connections as long as all the torrent data is TCP protocol. It has not been implemented into any bittorent clients, but it is possible. It is possible because a TCP HTTP proxy can route bi-directional data.

Well, is it then still a HyperText Transfer Protocol proxy, strictly speaking?;)
