Seeding existing torrents.

Wed Nov 15, 2006 5:24 pm
OK, i apologise if anyones answered this before, but I couldn't find anything about it when I searched.

I have a lot of torrents that I had downloaded with utorrent before I changed to linux, And I want to seed them so that I can keep my ratio up with private trackers. I have all the data for them, I just can't figure out how to go about seeding them, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Place those downloaded files into some directory where you want your downloads to be saved in future. In KTorrent settings check 'Automatically save torrents to directory' and choose previously mentioned directory.

After that, just open all your private torrents (as if you were going to download them) and KTorrent will open data scanning dialog for all those torrents. If all checked data is OK, KTorrent will continue seeding your torrents without problems.

Should you have any questions or problems, feel free to post here.

ah it seems to have checked the data ok, but it came up with this error problem when trying to seed.

Any ideas what that is? Sorry I'm pretty new to this.

EDIT: And thank you, by the way.

No permission. Could be:
- symlinks link to a fat32 or NTFS partition
- your account doesn't have write/read permissions on the save location
...

Ok, hopefully its the second of the two, because that should be fairly easy to fix. Im not at my own computer at the moment so I cant check just right now.

However the first one doesnt actually mean a lot to me, I've done a search about fat32 and NTFS and read a little bit about them. Doesn't make too much sense to me but Im guessing that linux doesnt use these file allocations or whatever they are. So does that mean there is no fix for this? Sorry I'm completely new to this, thanks for your help.

I'll check if changing my account permissions will help first, but if that doesn't work is there a fix for the first problem?

Are those files you've downloaded on your FAT partition? The one that you can read from Windows?
If so, you'll have to move those files to your linux partition and seed them from there because FAT filesystem does not support symlinks (it's just something you can't fix).

ah thanks very much it turned out just to be the permissions. I havnt actually got my hard drive partitioned, i've just completely moved over to linux. A bit daunting to start with but hopefully it'll pay off.
