ktorrent banned at bitsoup.org!

Thu Nov 16, 2006 2:54 pm
ktorrent has been banned at http://www.bitsoup.org/ ! The reason they've given... to my understanding... is that ktorrent report bad stats and that it does not identify it self properly to the tracker. Is this correct? ..if so, are there any plans to correct these bugs?

I dont know to which version they refer, but known bugs were fixed some time ago.

They've not given any version information... they've banned all versions of the client.

Quote from their "blacklist" :

KTorrent Bad stats & does not uniquely identify itself.

Bitsoup is a bad tracker anyway, they spam multiple PM messages every day and if you're not(what they think, not the 42 days stated in faq) active enough you'll get deleted without notice...
This was about 1.5 years ago when i still used utorrent, i dunno if they have changed though. But i shouldn't care too much if it was me.

All stats bugs are normally resolved and we send version information to the tracker for quite some time now (don't ask me when )

I've been a member at bitsoup for a month now... I've recieved five PM's during this time. In my opinion they're fast and reliable and I've never downloaded low quality stuff from them. I'm very happy with bitsoup, but I'm very sad I no longer can use my favorite client. I would be very happy if someone from the ktorrent developer crew would get in touch with the bitsoup crew and solve these issues. I'm no fan of redundant functioning software on my computer, but now I have to hold several diffrent clients on my machine.

They banned all clients and added a whitelist. I already asked in their forums to add KTorrent to the whitelist. Their webmaster should add more clients to this whitelist soon, and I hope he will add Ktorrent.

Somehow I feel that the "whislist" in their forum is just to ease our mind in the belief that more clients will be added. I do not believe this until I see the whitelist grow. While I wait I need to get another client... I can not use Azureus 'cause it chockes my computer and my internett connection. Command line clients are out of the question. What other client, with a similar interface and features to ktorrent, can I use with bitsoup. I use Suse Linux v10.1 running KDE (and theres not a trace of Gnome here and there will never be). I'm open to suggestions!?

I've sent a private message to some admin guy 2 days ago but still I get no response from him. Any other way to reach someone in charge there?

Using their "helpdesk" gave me answer within a couple of hours. But they only referred to their whitelist. I guess beeing a regular user and not a developer puts me way dawn their priority list.

I'd try to help if I was a member there. ktorrent used to have a stats bug. I know this because the developer admitted it, but everyone is entitled to a mistake. I persuaded one of the more elite private trackers to unban this client. Many others already have. I love this client. I am a utorrent refugee now so you'll be seeing more of me. I been playing with Linux and this puts it to good use :)
