Problems with KTorrent (Compiled 2.1dev from SVN...)

System: Kubuntu i386

I compiled 2.1dev from SVN because I thought it would solve my slow speed problems. I started 2.1dev and it was rather, unpolished. No pane at the bottom (like in 2.0.3) so I wanted to move back to 2.0.3 (since I wasn't getting any better speeds in 2.1dev).

After installing ktorrent from my repo. I now get
ktorrent: Symbol `_ZTIN2kt13CoreInterfaceE' has different size in shared object, consider re-linking
ktorrent: symbol lookup error: ktorrent: undefined symbol: _ZN2bt6Server6updateEv

And I cannot start ktorrent. When I use `locate ktorrent`, I get:
/var/lib/dpkg/info/ktorrent.list
/var/lib/dpkg/info/ktorrent.postrm
/home/nickpresta/.local/share/applications/kde-ktorrent.desktop
/usr/share/app-install/desktop/ktorrent.desktop
/usr/share/app-install/icons/ktorrent.png
/usr/share/locale-langpack/en_GB/LC_MESSAGES/ktorrent.mo

`which ktorrent` returns nothing.

I have backed up my ~/.kde/.../ktorrent folder so my torrents are intact.
Whenever I install ktorrent from the repo. I get the same error. Any suggestions on how to fix this? Any more information needed?

You probably have some old/new plugins/libraries so KT is complaining.

Try this:

1. Remove KT package (2.0.3) purge-remove
2. Install KT 2.1dev (it will overwrite any leftovers from 2.0.3) - do make install!
3. Remove 2.1dev - make uninstall
4. Install KT 2.0.3 from your package manager

Maybe there's some much simpler solution but this is the first that I thought of.

I will try it tonight and get back to you tomorrow.
Thank you for the help. I realize this is not directly related to KT and is more general GNU+Linux knowledge but I appreciate the help anyways.

I would just like to mention that I have been using µTorrent in the meanwhile and I have noticed a HUGE speed increase. Same ports, same torrents, same network traffic, same connection and computer.
In KT, I was averaging 2KB/s download and 3KB/s upload (both D/U were set to 0 for unlimited). In µTorrent, I am averaging 23KB/s download and 34KB/s upload.

Hello, I have a similar problem running ktorrent 2.0.3 on Mandriva.
Each time I start ktorrent, It crashes, without any reason and I get the error message :
symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libktorrent.so.0: undefined symbol: _ZNK8KNetwork10KIpAddress12hostIPv4AddrEb

NickPresta, as I'm unable to use ktorrent for the moment, I would like to knaow how you managed to run µtorrent, 'cause I can't find any version for Linux :(

What version of KDE are you running ? And where did you get the mandriva package from ?

Probably with wine.

ftp://fr2.rpmfind.net/linux/MandrakeCooker/cooker/
i586/media/contrib/release/ktorrent-2.0.3-1mdv2007.1.i586.rpm

Using 2007 packages on 2006, that would probably explain it.

It would be best if you compiled from source. You will probably need to install development packages for KDE and Qt.
