Hello. I just stopped using a windows laptop using utorrent to download and switched to this desktop running Kubuntu Edgy, using ktorrent obviously. On utorrent I could download as fast as 700MB/s and upload as fast as 70. On ktorrent, uploads always out pace downloads - I'm avaraging 40k up and 10k down. I set ktorrent to use port 3333, 3334 for UDP, and I forwarded that range with my linksys router to this computer - pretty much the similar setup I used for utorrent in windows, however the results are drastically different. What am I doing wrong?
Also, I googled for help and read that some people have reported faster speeds with the 2.1rc1, so I upgraded and yeah there was a small boost, but nothing worth much of anything. |

700MB/s ? You download a 1 CD DivX movie in a second? Are you sure you didn't mean 700 KB/s ? Anyway, KT should have descent download speeds in 2.1rc1 but those could be different for different torrents. Are you sure you have a healthy torrents? |

Measuring torrenting performance using arbitrary torrents is almost always a ****; there's far too many environmental variables to assess if something is caused by the change in clients or just change in network conditions since.
In my controlled-swarm testing KTorrent 2.1 achieves similar speeds to uTorrent and Azureus, while KTorrent 2.0.x trails behind. |
