I have a simple question - where does ktorrent store the *.torrent files when you are working in a browser and click on a link to open the torrent file and then ktorrenit opens them?
In many cases I have the option of saving a torrent to disk, or opening the torrent with KTorrent. Out of laziness, I sometimes just open the torrent file with ktorrent instead of saving it to disk. Unfortunately, later on I sometimes cannot find the .torrent file when I need it. As a case in point, I have downloaded 2 GB of a 4 GB torrent, and lost the torrent file in a crash. but i still have the data. Unfortunately, now I can't find a copy of the original torrent file on the web even though i was downloading it this morning, so I'd like to find where ktorrent put it. if yoiu can tell me where ktorrent puts the torrent files, i'd greatly appreciate it! thanks! |

KTorrent stores data files in ~/.kde/share/apps/ktorrent/torX where X is a number. Torrents are stored in these directories and are called simply 'torrent'.
So your torrent file is most likely to be in some of these directories. An easy way to locate it is to right-click a torrent and then choose 'Open Directory-> Temporary directory'. Inside this directory you'll find your torrent. |

1. Well, right-clicking on a torrent doesn't offer a choice like "Open Directory -> Temporary Directory." Are you suggesting that I perform the right-click operation from within KTorrent, or Konqueror? I'm using Konqueror 3.5.5 and neither program provides that option with a right-click.
2. all of the files in ~/.kde/share/apps/ktorrent/torXtorrent have the same file name; only the value of X changes int he path name. How do you tell which file named "torrent" is the one that you're looking for if they all havethe same name? 3. Does this mean that Ktorrent does not retain a copy of the original torrent? thanks for yoiur help. |

1. You're most probably using an old KTorrent version. Upgrade to the latest 2.1rc1 and you'll find the option
2. It's not easy to find coresponding torX directory, so that's why we added 'Open directory' to context menu in the latest version. 3. KTorrent retains a non-modified copy of the torrent file, only it renames it to 'torrent'. |
