Hello. I can't seem to keep Ktorrent running. It appears to start just fine, but after a bit, it becomes unresponsive, and eventually crashes. It was working fine for quite some time, then started doing this. After reading a few "Ktorrent is crashing" threads, I updated to the new version - 2.1rc1 in the hopes that would fix the issue. All it did was make whatever the problem was happen faster. Ktorrent now becomes unresponsive within about 10 minutes after starting.
If it helps any, I am running it on Ubuntu using XCFE. In a lot of threads asking for help, I see those trying to help asking for a backtrace. Unfortunately, being a newb, I have no idea how to get that if I have it. Sorry to be so needy, but if a backtrace would help solve the problem, please give me a quick howto. I really really like Ktorrent - please help me fix this! |

Well, I tried installing KDE and running Ktorrent under that and it went crashy exactly the same way. No crash messages or anything.
So I switched back to XFCE and tried uninstalling and doing a clean install of 2.1rc1 and it crashed exactly the same way. So I went into Ktorrent and in the very little time between starting it and it crashing, I removed all of the torrents I was uploading, changed the settings to limit my downloads to 3 torrents at a time and then it actually locked my entire system up. After reboot... it worked. I'm not sure what I did that made it work again, I just know that it's not going crashy anymore, and as long as it doesn't go crashy again, I'm happy. So...I had a rather large number of torrents running at the same time. Some 20+ seeding and about 10 downloading. Would that make Ktorrent go all unstable and crash that way? I love Ktorrent in general, but this was really aggravating and I would very much like to avoid this issue again if possible. Do I need to just keep the number of files I seed/download down? And if so, how few should I have? |

Generally there should not be any limitations to the number of torrents. This is probably limited by hardware resources. I'm running 20-30 torrents without problems.
Your error, by the way, is probably not related to the number of running torrents. It's probably related to a specific torrent or maybe a few of them. It's not a bad idea, in case you haven't deleted those torrents, to add them one by one to KTorrent (restart KT in between) and see which one is causing the problem. When you detect it, maybe we can prevent this from happening again. |

Sorry this took so long, I don't have a lot of free time between work and other projects, so I had to fiddle with Ktorrent between. Usually I just set up my torrent client and let it run, which is why it was messing with me so much that my torrent client kept crashing!
It didn't help that it was not one, but TWO torrents making things to bad. The following torrents will make Ktorrent go crashy on my system. It doesn't crash right away, and I've seen it run them for hours before crashing, so I'm not sure why it does crash. http://isohunt.com/download/14130933/charlie+jade http://isohunt.com/download/15428577/blue+lagoon Perhaps you can have a look at it and figure out why. I have since replaced the blue lagoon torrent with a DVD rip, but I can't seem to find a working Charlie Jade torrent other then that one, so if you could figure out a way to make Ktorrent work with it, I would very much appreciate it, especially since I've now seen the first episode and am addicted. |

Please, post the results of letting them run here. If they crashed on you, let me know it wasn't just me. If they ran just fine, let me know it's just me. Incidentally, if they ran for more then 24 hours without a crash, I'd say they're not going to crash. While I have seen them run for about an hour on my own system, they usually crash Ktorrent within 15 minutes...

I've been running these torrents for >24h and haven't seen a crash yet. I also haven't downloaded much since my connection sucks but anyway I cannot seem to trigger crashes you've been experiencing.
Try to remove those torrents from KT. Backup them somewhere and start a fresh download of the same torrents. Also, you could try doing that with the latest SVN version. See what happens then. |

Oddly, it seems to be crashing a lot less now. Yesterday, I turned Ktorrent on and ran only the Charley Jade torrent and told it to download only one file. By downloading only one file at a time, I managed to get 3 files before I went to bed. Next morning Ktorrent was no longer running, so I guess it crashed.
Perhaps it's only one file that makes it crash? I'm going to test that to the best of my abilities when I can find the time. I'm afraid I have to admit to not knowing what SVN is. I have not been using Linux for very long... |

I referred to the newest development version ('the latest SVN' you'll find around the forums). You have instructions how to obtain a copy in FAQ on our website. Or you can use SVN snapshots generated weekly, they are in downloads section. You'll need to compile these versions if you want to use try them. |
