We will contact oink, to explain the problem, and ask them to unban you.

Great work! Good to see you have contact with big torrentsites and get help with solving issues like this.

I must say you have been most helpful. If I knew English a bit better I would have written some more 'thank you' sentences!

Thank you very much!

BTW, a note to all users: Always read the FAQ. It's clearly stated on OiNK that alpha and beta clients should be avoided. This issue pretty much explains why.[/b]

Thanks to you guys more like. We never like wrongly banning someone on the grounds of cheating, and you discovered and fixed the bug in the client very quickly :).

I am glad to hear the latest version of KTorrent resolves this issue. KTorrent is easily my favorite bittorrent client, being a KDE user.

It is a bit surprising to me that my account was unbanned. I suppose not all of the OiNK admins are as stubborn as I was led to believe.

Cheers to both parties.

Same bug as caustiq?

Sun Feb 04, 2007 8:29 am
Hi all,

I think the same thing might have happened to me. I got banned from oink for cheating and don't know why. I've read some speculation regarding the number of connections per torrent and the upload rate but that doesn't seem right as I hadn't changed anything.

I use ktorrent as it's the best torrent client I have found for ubuntu. So first of all thanks to anyone involved in it's development. Much kudos to you all.

If anyone notices my post I was wondering if there is any way that I can find out if the bug that caustiq had might have occurred to me as well?

Oink has been a great source for me and I have always tried to do the right thing for other oinkers. My ratio wasn't as good as I would have liked. About .87 but it was improving. The loss of my account has really shocked me and as much as anything the fact that I have been accused of cheating is the worst part. I don't cheat at anything and as soon as I try to plead my case to the oink admins, who I am sure are busy people who care not for cheaters/people who appear to be cheaters, they temp ban me from their irc channel. On top of that my friend who gave me an invite has been stripped of his invitation privileges for no reason.

If anyone can help me out I'd really appreciate it. I am not at home now so I can't check to see if I have log files that could be used to prove my case but I will check for that when I get home.

Thank you for your time.

We would need the log files of the session to be able to prove that.

Thanks for your reply George. Unfortunately I think I have restarted ktorrent a few times since then.

http://thenessofthings.com/log20070203.txt. Here is the log file that I found as at today. I'm guessing it's pretty much useless.

screen capture of my uploads when my account got disabled. I guess I would need an OiNK admin to look at the image to see if it correlates with their logs or whatever they do to monitor users. I don't even know if that's possible.

:( Cheers anyway.

There is not much we can do with that log file. Maybe we need to add a feature to keep track of the last 20 log files or something like that. Then we have a pretty good chance of finding the offending session.

I'd be happy to put my hand up to test that feature were it ever implemented. Might help some other poor soul out there.

Cheers

I am new to ktorrent and Oink, so be patient with my basic questions.

I have worked hard to get a good "ratio" (2.5) at Oink. However, during the process I had several times when my system locked up, mostly while trying to set up wine with EAC and I now suspect a bad hard ( one on order). So far ktorrent has survived just fine, when the system starts back up ktorrent seems to recover ok and my stats at Oink are ok.

I did stop and delete a few torrents shortly after I started to download them, I hope this type of behavior doesn't create "stat" problems.

Should I start making copies of the ktorrent log files? I have no idea how one would "cheat" and I certainly am not interested in cheating or being accused of cheating. I would hope the administrators at Oink would be able to tell by the number of torrents uploaded etc if an individual is trying to cheat.

Are there any simple precautions I can take to prevent any possibility of even the perception of cheating?

apparently there are quite a few cheaters out there that ruin things for the average user. I'd like to say that if you don't do anything wrong that you will be okay, but i didn't do anything wrong afaik and the OiNK admins won't tell me what I did.

I don't know if how long it will take, but I am going to learn how to read the log file and try to dig into the code to see if i can replicate this bug. If I can work out how to make code changes to save backups of the log files along the way then I think that would be beneficial.

Cheers,

Chris
