mmap problem

Thu Feb 15, 2007 1:59 pm
Hi,

I'm using gentoo 2006.1 with kde and ktorrent 2.0.2. 2.0.3 is still masked in portage. While downloading a torrent I continously get "mmap failed: no such device" while downloading a chunk of a torrent (at least one per torrent). That means that ktorrent or some lib cannot find a device in /dev right? Can anyone tell me what is missing?

Would be great if someone has an idea what I could do to fix this one.

I've been trying on freenode irc in #gentoo already without success.

Kind regards,

lsmooth

edit: kde-libs is Version 3.5.5

The output looks like this
Code: Select all
Chunk 96 downloaded
mmap failed : No such device
mmap failed : No such device
Chunk 118 downloaded
mmap failed : No such device

What kind of file system are you running on ?

Also, I would check if you have enough diskspace on it.

It's ReiserFS, Diskspace is more than enough

No such device, indicates that the error mmap returned was ENODEV, which according to the manpage of mmap means that :

ENODEV The underlying filesystem of the specified file does not support memory mapping.

However I'm using reiserfs, and have not seen this problem. ReiserFS definitely supports mmap.

But this is not really a problem, if mmap fails we use another method to get things done.
