(I made some edits to orginal post:)
I was having the "freeze" problem listed in the development section http://ktorrent.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1345 I downloaded the svn, compiled it and started it up and was banned from Oink. In chat I explained what happened and he gave back access but warned me not to try using 2.2 dev again. I did not like the new layout in 2.2dev. I realize the problem I was having being unable to resize the window properly was due to it still being in development release, and I couldn't find the global stats at all but having the uploads and download on separate tabs made it more difficult to see what was going on, although it was nice for individual torrent stats. I hope they give us the option to keep the current way of viewing it all. ktorrent is still my favorite. My only problem using the current version is mixing public and private trackers, it seems the torrents on public trackers during a download will grab most all the upload bandwidth ( speed) shifting the upload from the seeds on the private trackers to peers on the public trackes, I can watch it happen and changing the upload speed limits, ratio, upload ratios etc make no difference, the greater percentage of uploading shifts to the peers on the public trackers. I always have a lot of 0/0 peers so I was hoping that the latest release would at least improve the download speed on the public trackers that always have a lot of peers with nothing happening. It is almost as though I can't have both private and public going the same time, and unfortunately some things I want are only on public trackers. It would be nice if we had some way to set priorities for different torrents, I want to share but not have some peers take it all. I don't think this is a ktorrent problem, but ktorrent would be better if it had some mechanism to set priorities. Keep it in mind that using ktorrent 2.2dev may get you banned from a private tracker. |

What problem with resizing the window ? Also if you want to get back to one tab with all torrents, close one tab and go in the groups tab and click on all torrents. You can open as many tabs as you want now.
We are going to add speed limits for individual torrents and groups of torrents. We could easily add 2 new groups named public and private, and with group speed limits, you would then be able to set a low limit for public torrents and a higher limit for private torrents. |

Thanks George, being able to see all the torrents the way we do now is better for me and adding two groups that we could limit upload speed or set a higher priority would certainly be nicer.
On my Kubuntu edgy using kde 3.5.6 after compiling and installing yesterday's svn I was only able to make the window wider or thinner, it extended from the top of my screen to the bottom, I had to move the kde panel to see all of ktorrent. I could not get resizing the arrows on the top, bottom or corners, only on the sides. Other than having trouble resizing the window, it worked great, if I had not had trouble with Oink, I would have kept using it. |

That's strange, I can make the window pretty small, what kind of resolution are you using ? |

George,
I no longer have it installed to try it, as I posted, when Oink banned me for using it,I removed it and re-installed the regular 2.1 release. Is there a way I can run it from the directory where it was compiled in or install it to a specific users directory to test it, without actually switching it with the regular 2.1 release that is installed system wide? |

George,
I received a pm on Oink that I could use the svn version of ktorrent now. I ran "make clean" and went through the process listed on the faq to download, compile and install the latest code available (as of about 1 hour ago). It looks good, working OK, the windows do everything they should, and I like having the "all" torrents tab. Thanks, I really like it better now,- and so far no problems with the Oink tracker. Now I need to learn how to "update" the source code so I can keep my version current. joe |
