Using RSS within ktorrent ...

Wed Mar 07, 2007 3:21 am
First, I'm running kTorrent 2.1 under KDE 3.5.5 ... I'm coming from Azureus, but would really like to reduce the memory footprint, and since 2.1 has RSS capabilities *and* is 'KDE specific', looks like a good place to start ...

But, either I'm missing something, or I'm totally lost ... again, please note that I'm used to RSSFeed with Azureus, so maybe i'm just spoiled?

I Load the RSS module ... piece of cake ... I add a New RSS Feed (EZTV) ... Refresh and the list of shows come up ... but now what? Under Azureus, I'd right-click on the show I wanted to add to my filter for auto-download, and be able to choose what directory to download that filter to ...

in kTorrent, I can't even seem to cut-n-paste the name to manually create a new filter ... ?

Figure, okay ... its young, so I go to 'Filters' and try to add a filter manually ... but it doesn't let me choose where to download the files to there either?

Please note that I do know how OSS works, and do realize that the RSS stuff is new, so if this is just stuff on the TODO list but not implemented yet, that's cool ... I keep watch while it matures more ... but I'd be happier if it was just that I was blind :)

Thx

Hi Scrappy,

The rssfeed uses the location you have set to automatically save downloads to for the entire application. It's under settings->configure ktorrent->general->automatically save downloads to....

In a future version I'll add per filter option for a location to save to.

You do currently need to make filters manually - I might look at coming up with an automatic filter creation option as a context menu. The challenge with that is going to be getting a reliable algorithm for deciphering a torrent - may not even be practically doable to an acceptable level.

Cheers,

Alan.

You should have to decipher anything ... at least with Azureus, they don't ... all they do is take the string that is listed in the RSS feed and use that as the 'starting point' and let you modify accordingly ...

ie.

I'd have a filter that starts as:

The.Daily.Show.03.08.07.(DSRip-2SD)[VTV]

and then I'd just manually trim it down to: The.Daily.Show and add a ^ to the start ...

Even being able to SELECT / cut-n-paste the entry from the 'list screen' would be helpful, but I can't even seem to do that, so I have to memorize the entry, change screen, type it in, go back to check and make sure that I didn't mis-type, etc ... :(
