Create a torrent using ktorrent

Wed Mar 07, 2007 7:49 pm
Hey folks,

I made a search on these forums, but didn't find answers matching my exact questions.

When I do File > New in order to create a new torrent, I get the standard GUI, asking me to add at least one tracker.

I have many questions about this, because whatever I try, I get and "invalid answer" for the tracker status.

How do you specify the tracker when:

* it's public? I guess something like http://mytracker.org or http://mytracker.org/announce.php ?

* it's private? same question as before, and how do you specify login and password?

as I read in a old thread that versions prior to 2.1 can be buggy regarding the creation of torrents, I don't know if I encounter this case, or if I specify trackers the wrong way. Whatever the answer, I really like, in any case, to know how to set a tracker.

Nota 1: the menu and Gui names are a rough translation from french. I use Ubuntu 6.06 LTS with KTorrent 2.0.1 (KDE 3.5.2)

Nota 2: is there a list of public trackers?

Thanks for your help.

If it's a public tracker you specify just like you stated. Normall HTTP Url for that tracker. Same goes for private trackers except they'll give you exact url, probably with your passkey or something and you'll also have to check 'private torrent' checkbox.

For translations you should probably have to contact KDE French translators team.

zdravo Ivan,

about the translations I want to say that I use a french version of Ktorrent, so MY on-the-fly translations in english could be slightly different than what is really writtent in the GUI ;-)

in the meantime (well, only a few minutes ago) i found this:

http://www.mepis.org/docs/en/index.php/ ... _a_torrent

my mistake was to think that the only step in order to create a torrent was to fill the fields in the Ktorrent tool, but apparently i'm worng, as it seems necessary to update it on the tracker homepage also (public or not).

:) sorry for misunderstanding about French translation :)

Anyway, this specific public tracker requires a free account. With most other public trackers you only put their announce URL and you're done. No need for confirmation on their website and that kind of stuff. Just put announce URL, create torrent, start seeding it and you're done.
