My upload rate is supposed to be capped at 77KB/s by my ISP. Web based speed tests do show that that is my max upload rate. Yet, when uncapped, Ktorrent often shows my upload rate is 100+KB/s and I've seen it hold as high as 150+KB/s for periods. How is that possible? Is there a quirk in the upload speed computed by Ktorrent that causes it to show these abnormally high upload rates? Since the files are already compressed it can't be compression that's giving me that boost. So what's up guys

You could perhaps use iptraf to see how much traffic is flowing through your network interface |

<bashes head against wall> <again> Duh, all I had to do was bring up the interface status on my Mepis box. It does confirm the faster upload. Then I went to some speed tests site and tried those again. Much to my surprise they are also confirming the faster upload rate. I'm getting rates of 1.3-1.6 Mb/s. ![]() I'm confused, now I'd like to check the config settings on my modem but I'm not sure how to do that on this Motorola modem (SB5120). It was available on the web interface with my old 3Com modem. Maybe I'll call Comcast and complain my connection is too fast... and then again maybe not ![]() |

I did some searching on the Comcast forums and it seems they are testing their "powerboost" feature on uploads around here. Powerboost is only supposed to be active for the first 10-20 megabytes of a transfer though. This appears to be a real speed increase. Perhaps the multiple connections of a torrent is confusing the technology and it is showing up as a steady UL speed increase. Each time Ktorrent switches peers it sees it as a new connection perhaps. If so it may be a bit of a problem for them to reign in.
