Ktorrent crash

Wed Apr 04, 2007 2:38 pm
i was using Ktorrent in PCLinuxOS to download a large amount of data (1 torrent, ~10Gigs data). Everything run smoothly to 54% complete (about 5.5g download ok), then a status "error: error" appeared, tried to update tracker-no use, quited and rerun Ktorrent download restarted ok for a minute or so then again "error: error".

i tried a data integrity check and Ktorrent crashed causing problems to my PCLOS installation: user (not root) login fails due to Ktorrent tmp problem or something like that, so being a linux novice i reinstalled PCLOS.

is there a known problem concerning Ktorrent and large amount of data or something in my (linux) configuration was wrong?

Thanx

ps: Ktorrent 2.1 (Using KDE 3.5.6) -> (about Ktorrent)

Ktorrent version

Wed Apr 04, 2007 6:36 pm
i recently installed PCLOS 2007 and i were using the Ktorrent release that came with it. "About Ktorrent" menu item reports "Ktorrent 2.1 (Using KDE 3.5.6)".

i realise there is Ktorrent release 2.1.2, 2.1.3 but i'm afraid i don't know where (how) to retrieve more specific information in my system.

If the about dialog says you are using 2.1, you are using 2.1

my own answer

Fri Apr 13, 2007 5:50 pm
i came back to report the end of the story...

in my new PCLOS installation i ran Ktorrent and loaded same old torrent (~10 Gigs data download). had already configured Ktorrent to use as download directory the one that contained the 5.5 gigs data previously downloaded to my pc. Unexpectedly (to me, anyway) Ktorrent performed an integrity check, recognized the 5.5 gigs data, resumed and completed downloading (all 10 gigs!) with no problem at all.

so the answer to my question is yes, Ktorrent 2.1 and later (i suppose) can handle large amount of data (to 10 gigs at least).

for history reasons:

during initial Ktorrrent installation had configured upload and download (DSL) speed, the two customizable directories (downloads, torrents), DHT, encryption, according to my win_XP-utorrent (adequate) experience.

during second Ktorrrent installation i only configured the two directories (downloads, torrents), DHT, encryption.

so the problem i had initially, seems to be non-Ktorrent related and i think it's a dunno what, linux misconfiguration (possibly KDE related, which i extensively customized).
