saving data using smb:/ protocol

Sun Apr 15, 2007 10:34 am
Hello,

I have one laptop and one Netwok Attached Storage(NAS) connected in a local network. The NAS has integrated samba server so I can access it using smb:/server_name/shared_folder from konqueror. Is it possible to save the downloaded files directly to my NAS in some way? I use suse 10.2 with latest KDE. When ktorrent asks me to choose the saving location, if I select "network folder" and then try to choose the shared folder on NAS, it just hangs there looking for the folder. If I directly type smb:/server_name/shared_folder in ktorrent settings, it complains remote protocol not supported. Is there any other way to save the downloaded files directly in my NAS? By the way, NAS also has integrated ftp server.

regards,

I don't think that they've implemented samba or ftp yet, but I'm not sure.

Try setting up a symbolic link to the folder you want to save to and see if that works.

It should work if and only if you mount the Samba server as a filesystem with mount.smbfs or mount.cifs.

hi,

Sorry for updating/replying late.

I have managed to mount the NAS share with cifs file system. Mounting it was a hell of a problem but found out that echo 0 > /proc/fs/cifs/LinuxExtensionsEnabled did the trick. The share is user writable and I can create directory, file and edit the file. However, when I choose that mounted share as directory to save downloaded data using ktorrent, it simply hangs and the only way out is to kill the ktorrent. For the information, the NAS only supports FAT32 system. Any suggestion?

Regards
