Hi,

Previously I was running ktorrent through a wired connection and all was great, I could have twenty torrents open and my system would be solid. I recently moved and now have to connect to the router via wifi, so I bought a madwifi supported card and now if I have more than 3 torrents open ktorrent jumps up to 10-20 % cpu and ram and my system crawls.

Any ideas on how to fix this or what could be causing it? I see some other posts regarding wireless performance from 2006, but I didn't see an answer to the problem in there.

Thanks.

This could be an issue with your router's firmware, or the router itself.

What's your brand of router?

The issue may be the number of connections. Routers sometimes keep connection info in their RAM, and when you P2P over them they gather a LOT of connection data.

The good news is, if you're a Linux user, and therefore used to fiddling, you can upgrade your router to better firmware. Depending, of course, on what it is.

So, what do you have?

If you'd like to look into it, the recommended firmware to negate this problem:
