Strange peers info

Thu May 24, 2007 7:16 pm
I'm having a strangeness with ktorrent-2.1.3. I am running gentoo and have just recently upgraded.

a. I have been downloading a torrent and even though I'd already 'downloaded' nearly 2%, it was still showing 0.00% 'complete'.

b. Started downloading and 'downloaded' showed 30MB ..... couple of hours later 'downloaded' shows 18.6MB. (This is in the top pane.)

c. A while ago 'transferred down' showed 10MB .... now its showing 4.2MB.

d. Most of the peers (~70) are showing a 'score' of -50 .... those who aren't have scores of 0.00. (The 0.00s aren't the ones seeding, either.)

Update - 'downloaded' now @ 15.4MB and 'transferred down' now 1.0MB and both falling.

Update - 'downloaded' now @ 4.8MB and 'transferred down' now 0.0B and both falling.

Download speed has been anywhere from 0.1 to 3.8 KB/s (mainly <= 0.5KB/s.

I have now downloaded a similar torrent with no problems - >100 peers, D/L speeds up to 30+ KB/s. Only the occasional peer has a score or -50. Was it a bad torrent or what?

The torrent is - http://btjunkie.org/torrent/The-Number- ... ef844f31b5

The announce tracker is - http://tpb.tracker.thepiratebay.org/announce

The torrent file is 11,696 Bytes, file size 2.23GB. Seems strange - a torrent file for 700MB I have is 28,382 Bytes.

HTH Cyril.

OK, I see a whole bunch of peers with IP addresses starting with 38.100

This is rather fishy so I loaded the IP filter plugin, restarted the torrent and all those peers were blocked.

It seems this torrent is poisoned with bad peers, the remaining peers don't appear to have much data (most them are at 0 %)

This also explains the number of bytes downloaded dropping, this happens when we detect invalid chunks.

Thanks for the help. Good to see ktorrent is working properly.
