Corrupt Torrent?

Thu May 31, 2007 9:35 pm
OK, I'm using Kubuntu 7.04, and ktorrent had an update a few weeks back (I'm assuming to 2.1.4, the about only says 2.1). After the update, I got a cascade of errors saying "An error occurred while loading the torrent. The torrent is probably corrupt or is not a torrent file." I was able to identify the "corrupt" torrents (eleven of them in total) by seeing which ones were no longer being seeded. I re-downloaded the .torrent files, and received the same error again when I tried to load them. I then went into my ~/.kde/share/apps/ktorrent folder and deleted the corresponding torX/ folders for the "corrupted" .torrents, and tried again, but still the same error. I've tried deleting any torrents in my /tmp folder, any reference to torrents in /var/tmp/kdecache-(user)/http/, and I've even uninstalled ktorrent, deleted the config files and various associated folders, re-installed ktorrent, and I still get the same error. Now I'm starting to get the same error for the occasional new torrent. This is driving me nuts, the only thing I can think of is that the new version of ktorrent thinks that some legitimate .torrent files are corrupt when in fact they are not. For reference, the original .torrent files were created with Azureus, however several other torrents I created at the same time, also using Azureus, still work fine. Any thoughts?

If the about box says 2.1, then you are running 2.1, I suggest you really upgrade to 2.1.4 or even 2.2beta1 (we have packages for ubuntu on our downloads page)

Checked the version number in adept, and sure enough it was 2.1. Wonder what the update was for, were they using a pre 2.1 version in the repos up until a few weeks back? Anyway, I compiled the 2.2beta1 (the package url's didn't work) and everything works great now! Thanks, keep up the good work!
