Web interface repeated login problems

Fri Jun 08, 2007 11:49 am
Hi all.

I'm trying to use the web interface plugin but I can't stay "logged in".

I've enabled the web interface and I can navigate to the login page in my browser. I'm able to successfully login and then I'm presented with a page which lists all my torrents and allows for making ktorrent configuration changes. However, if I do ~anything~ on this page, the browser takes me back to the ktorrent web interface login page where I must login again.

I'm using KTorrent 2.1.4 on KDE 3.5.4 (on Fedore Core 5; installed from FC5 rpms). But, I've also compiled and installed the latest KTorrent 2.2beta1 and it has the same problem.

I do have cookies enabled in my browser(s). I've used 3 different browsers (Konqueror, Opera, Firefox) on 3 different machines and all show the same behavior.

In the WebInterface configuration page, for the php executable path, I have /usr/bin/php. This file does exists and is executable when checked from the command line. However, in the webinterface configuration page, the "LED" indicator next to the php executable path remains red. Other posts indicate this "LED" should be green if the php executable has exec privs. (I really wish that mousing over the LED would tell you why the LED is there and what it means but that's a topic for another post.)

I've enabled debug logging for the web interface and the log messages say nothing more than

"Webgui login succesfull !
connection from 127.0.0.1"

Any help in solving this would be greatly appreciated.

I am getting this error also.

I am using Ubuntu 7.04, and have tried ktorrent 2.1 2.1.4 and 2.2rc1 - it happens on all of them.

One thing I have noticed - internal to my network at home the interface works fine, but once I am on the other side of my router - it has the login problem.

I have forwarded the ports on my router to the correct internal ip address, I can login but once I try to do anything on the interface (even refresh) it falls over.

I can only think that the interface is not remebering my authentication for some reason.

Any help appreciated.

Yup, a php --version shows,

PHP 5.2.1 (cli) etc

I think PHP is working fine, otherwise the web interface would not work at all.

Any more thoughts?

I have fixed my installation.

It turned out that the default Ubuntu installation does not set the FQDN correctly, fix that in /etc/hosts and all is now fine.

Hope this info helps someone else.

Could you clarify what exactly you did? I'm not seeing what to do in /etc/hosts.

Thanks.

Just make sure there is an entry like
Code: Select all
127.0.0.1       localhost

in /etc/hosts.

Then, use the name localhost (or whatever name identifies the computer running KTorrent) to connect to the Web GUI:
http://localhost:8080

I only experienced the problem of repeated login screens when I connected to the Web GUI using the IP address (e.g. http://127.0.0.1:8080).

I've had a similar problem with ktorrent on my computer.

How my computers are setup is that ktorrent is running on a headless server computer and I access the ktorrent web interface from another computer that I use for my desktop.

What happens is when I log into webmin on my computer it puts 2 different cookies on my desktop. These cookies conflict with the ktorrent cookie and cause it to log me out of ktorrent every time I do anything. What I have had to do is go to the list of saved cookes and remove all but the ktorrent one so that I don't get logged out all the time.

I hope this helps.

Same issue here...
If I get any other cookies from that server it logs me out every click. My workaround was to setup another hostname (ktorrent.mydomain.com) and use that exclusively for ktorrent.

I am having the same issue, but I only see one Cookie for my server (IP)...
Any news on if/when this bug might be fixed?
I am using 2.2.1, will 2.2.4 fix this?

It should be. There have been at least 2 versions since that problem happened. And I haven't had any problems with mine and I host multiple other things on my server that use cookies.
