Banned for cheating thedvdclub

Thu Jul 12, 2007 8:52 pm
Everything was fine, I got the 2.2 release from the kubuntu repositories through the normal adept upgrade process and upgraded over the svn version I was running. Afterwards my ip address was locked out but going through another tracker sysop I was able to get back on and this is what was said:

It appears that there was a dubious announce of 3 gigs in 0 seconds, but since this is the only recorded cheat, then we have put it down to an erroneous announce.

I have been using thedvdclub for several months and had the second highest class with a 3:1 ratio. I don't understand what happened but thought I should pass it on. I am using kubuntu feisty, with ktorrent 2.2 and kde 3.5.7.

on edit: I did have my system lockup about that time as well, I was extracting a rar file and apparently ran out of room on the partition, I don't know how long it was like that, I came back several hours later and saw it was locked up so I pulled the plug.

There's another site that has recently rebanned use of KTorrent, claiming it reports bad stats. I've stopped using the site, as I'm not about to drop KTorrent.

I had a problem with Oink one time when I switched to using the svn version of ktorrent, the fellow wrote that he saw something unusual, so I went back to the regular release version. A couple days later he sent me a pm and said he took a closer look and the svn version of ktorrent was the same as the general release version that was approved and I could use it.

I don't think I will stop using Ktorrent at this point, not even interested in trying other programs. I tried a lot when I first started, but like ktorrent best of all.

I did pm the one fellow, trying to find out when the incident took place, I do have some ktorrent logs in my home directory but have no idea if I have the ktorrent log for that time period. I would not even know what to look for.

I had hoped they would provide me with some idea when the incident happened so I could check the few logs I have, but they never got back to me. I now suspect that perhaps it was something else, perhaps a disgruntled user claiming I did a hit and run etc. so they banned me without checking. At any rate I lost most respect for the dvdclub and have very many doubts that ktorrent did anything wrong.
