kTorrent causing network to fail

Fri Aug 03, 2007 4:43 pm
Version: 2.2.1
Kde: 3.5.6

Im having a strange problem. While running ktorrent for a while my network connection stops working. Everything fails, ktorrent, web browsing, ssh, vnc etc. Its as if the cable was unplugged. Anyone know of any solution or had the same problem? If you need anymore details just let me know as im not at the computer atm.

try limiting the number of connections you allow and the upload speed

As said, limit your upload speed, number of maximum network connections, and also disable DHT. Many routers are weak and cannot support the number of connections that BitTorrent clients tend to make.

Max connections per torrent: 30
Global connection limit: 40
Max upload rate: unlimited

I'll try setting the upload rate see if that helps.

30 connections per torrent multiplied by an unlimited number of torrents might also be a problem. You should figure out your maximum total number of connections then divide that by the number of torrents you're going to want to have running at any time then make that the per-torrent number. Or else run fewer torrents at a time. You probably don't want a total of more than 256 connections open at any time (so in your case, no more than 8 active torrents)

Limiting the number of uploads and the total bandwidth solved my problem. Thanks!
