Same problem

Thu Oct 04, 2007 5:45 am
I'm having the same problem, but it just occurred recently. I noticed my upload speed didn't stay constant at 30kb/s then I noticed that all the bandwidth was being raped by Ktorrent when I tried using my laptop. Is this a bug or can there be a quick fix? When I close Ktorrent my speed comes back, but when ktorrent is running, my internet is raped. *This is an Edit right here* I just rebooted my router and all is back to normal. Before messing with your Ktorrent settings, reboot your router and see if that does the trick. I normally do it once a week, but I guess I forgot. thanks -cbsketchpad

I've been using Azureus as of late so I think I'll wait for the next KTorrent release to see if anything has changed.

Not solved yet?

Thu Oct 11, 2007 12:48 pm
Hi guys,

I can't use Ktorrent, last version didn't solve the issue yet. Dead connection after starting ktorrent. Utorrent working very fast from one or two months.

Any idea?

Thanks in advance.

What type of router are you using? Have your tried rebooting it after starting ktorrent?

Also I would suggest not running 2 torrent clients at the same time (just in case you were trying that)

In your case I would also suggest waiting about half an hour between shutting down utorrent, and starting ktorrent to make sure all peers figured out you left. This really shouldn't be an issue, but there are buggy clients out there. It's worth trying at least.

Also, some routers don't seem to properly release UPNP mappings. Check the router to make sure you don't have a ton of open ports that may be preventing ktorrent from working properly.

Lastly make sure ktorrent is not using port 6882 (which it defaults to) as some ISPs throttle or block that port completely. Change it to the same port that utorrent is using since you know that one works. If utorrent is using a random port, then try something like 45632 (that's what I use)

If you change the port make sure that it is mapped properly with the router.

Hope that helps.

Didn't work

First of all, thanks for your answer.

What type of router are you using?

A Comtrend router, but as I said in firts posts, is not a router problem, because same connections (and much more) in another torrent clients works very well.

Have your tried rebooting it after starting ktorrent?

Yes, of course. I got this problem from few months ago :-(

Also I would suggest not running 2 torrent clients at the same time (just in case you were trying that)

No, I didn't that :-)

In your case I would also suggest waiting about half an hour between shutting down utorrent, and starting ktorrent to make sure all peers figured out you left. This really shouldn't be an issue, but there are buggy clients out there. It's worth trying at least.

I probed that because I tried both clients in alternative days.

I'm sure is a Ktorrent bug:

- With another client not only my connection is alive. Torrents are really fast!

- With another router (motorola) I had the same problem.

- With minimal connections in Ktorrent I had the same problem.

- With double connections in another client, that client works perfectly.

Thanks again, any other idea there?

you didn't mention checking which port ktorrent is using that I mentioned as the last step in my previous post. If you didn't do that I would try it. Otherwise, I'd say I don't know.

The only time I've run into similar problems is when my router is having issues. Maybe it is how ktorrent handles connections, but now that I have a decent router, everything works fine.

Can we relate this bug to a specific distro? Because i have tested 2.2.1 under kubuntu feisty and PC-BSD and only seem to experience this bug on kubuntu. Is this only me?

Hi again,

Lastly make sure ktorrent is not using port 6882 (which it defaults to) as some ISPs throttle or block that port completely. Change it to the same port that utorrent is using since you know that one works. If utorrent is using a random port, then try something like 45632 (that's what I use)

First of all, my apologizes, I read so fast, I think :-), and thank you again for remember me because... it's incredible, you're right.

Two months (or more) with that issue, solved now: my ISP -Telefonica de España- was resetting the modem when I'm using 6882 port, I suppose. With utorrent port, 50754 for example, for TCP/UDP and 6881 for DHT everything runs fine since one hour ago. 90 K/sec. and no reset...

Thank you very, very, very much, johnjaylward.

PS: And apologizes for the developers because I said that's a bug.
