I searched for a previous thread for this error but I could only find one - in which the poster found a solution but very unhelpfully didn't post what the solution was :(
http://ktorrent.org/forum/viewtopic.php ... 4b29e4a715

Anyway, I started downloading a new torrent last night and got up this morning expecting it to be finished, but instead it had some contradictory errors.

Under the file list it showed all files as pending and 0% complete, yet in the main window it showed that 160MB had been downloaded.

When I looked at the log viewer, it had a series of errors (one for each file in the torrent) along these lines:
Error : Cannot symlink /home/steve/.kde/share/apps/ktorrent/[path to file] to /home/steve/[path to file]: No such file or directory

Ktorrent has worked flawlessly for me prior to this. Any idea whats going on?

Nearly every torrent i open i get "Cannot symlink" yadayada "No such file or directory". Noe i am using ktorrent 2.2.1 and kde 3.5.7. But the error was in ktorrent 2.2rc2 as well.

Strange, are the destination paths OK ? What about the location where the symlink is located ?

locations seem to be fine

locations seem to be fine, it is something like
[home][user].kde/share/apps/ktorrent/tor[nr]/cache/
and destination is correct.
Recently, the message always came three times (=for 3 files) in a MultiFileTorrent.
ktorrent d'led everything allright though. :?:

Could you send me that torrent ? So I can test it out myself.

I too have this problem unless I set the "folder to store temp. files" to my home directory (or a sub-directory of it)

running Suse 10.2, kde 3.57

My particular problem could be because the directory I attempted to use was a fat32?

OK, we found out what the problem was, and it is actually a pretty minor issue, and doesn't actually prevent you from downloading. All it does is produce these error messages.

Thats good timing - yesterday I used ktorrent for the first time since I posted this question and discovered exactly that! I saw the error messages in the log, but the files were successfully downloaded.

Cheers :)
