Hello.
I was an azureus user for a very long time, but after having several java failures and multiple crashes, someone on linuxquestions.org recommended I try ktorrent. So, I installed the package on my debian testing system through aptitude, and so far, I am really happy with what I have seen. I do have three questions though. As an old azureus user, I am used to having peers split into two catorgies: remote and local. Is a remote peer the same as one connected through dht? Does that mean I need DHT on to have remote peers? Next, does ktorrent perform the same checks on a torrent that azureus does to verify that all the data was downloaded correctly (I didn't see the testing/checking status on a completed download than I have grown accustomed to while using azureus)? Finally, I was able to, after reading a few forum posts, to find out how to get the ipblocker working (though I'm not sure if I need it since I use bittorrent mostly for linux iso's), by installing the kdebase-kio-plugins package on debian. It converted the list and said it is loaded, but is there a list of blocked IPs within ktorrent (like azureus used to have a main block list and say x% of the internet is blocked). Thanks in advance for any help, Sean |

Don't know what AZ means with local peers. Peers on the LAN ? Anyway we don't make any distinctions between peers, so whatever AZ means with local or remote, it doesn't matter.
There is no automatic data check at the end of a download. That option has been added in the KDE4 version.

Thank you for your quick reply. I just wanted to clarify one thing that you said:
Does that mean that there is no way to check the file at all, or is it just not automatic (you need to click something to check it). If there is a way to manually check a file, how do you go about it? Thanks again, Sean |

Ok, I have one (I hope) final question before I think I can completely dump azureus: when I am using Safepeer with ktorrent, and I go to the ipfilter, should I get the same list of blocked IPs like I did in azureus (where the list is user-customized blocks + the blacklist)? As of now, even though it says in the preferences that the ipfilter is loaded and running, the IP blocklist is blank. Does that means the list was not properly loaded? Do I have to manually import or open the converted blocklist file? If so, how do I go about that?
Thank you for all of your help, Sean |
